Refused to decide, so I'm doing it all
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Piranesi was a strange one. I believe I continued reading for vastly different reasons from one part of the book to the next.
There’s the blatant nostalgia of the beginning that seemed to tickle a fairy tale fancy I hadn’t known I had. It soon shifted to become something more abstract, surreal, larger than life, and then again to solidify into a mystery I was quite keen to understand.
It’s difficult to say very much at all without giving too much away, as so much of this tale relies on the slow reveal. I imagine critical analyses of the work will reveal far more from within the text for years to come. I did find some parts too slow, but beyond that it was a rather beautiful and poignant journey.
