Not another stranger in disguise

Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

OK, so rather unexpectedly, I’m very much ok with how this one played out.

I think what I love most about this book, is the ending. It is fierce. But it’s difficult to talk about an ending without giving the whole thing away, and I do believe the whole thing is worth reading, so I’ll stop talking about it.

All in all, this story was darker than I expected. It was also far more psychological than expected. It took the expected clichés and escalated them in a way I hadn’t expect. I honestly do think that, in a strange way, it served to emphasise the power of psychological abuse inherent in behaviours such as gaslighting. There are quite a few battered women/domestic abuse tales out there. Each brings something important to the table. This one was different. Slow at times, but no less important. And, again, I found it profoundly worthwhile getting to that ending.
