The Courage to Progress

The No-Show by Beth O’Leary

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Everything I really want to write about this book would hint too hard at some delicate spoilers I firmly believe are best discovered by reading the book.

I will say this, though: I think Beth O’Leary did a great job weaving three stories into one. Or one story into three, depending on how you look at it. I was ready to be angry, I was ready to laugh, maybe get a little ‘naww‘ going. I wasn’t totally sure how it would all come back around. A part of me wanted something completely different from this one at the start – with all that judgy expectation causing me to draft a wholly different story – but when I started to realise where this one leads you, I was quietly impressed.

I really like the themes addressed in this one, and how it was done. The ideas behind forgiveness and understanding and appreciating another’s past… as much as I thought I wouldn’t, I really like the way in which the characters are a slow reveal.

I know how vague all this sounds. What can I say? Go read, so we can have a frank conversation about it.

Just a feeling I got – (Photo credit: TanteTati)

  1. I’ve still only read The Flatshare by O’Leary but I’m keen to read her other books, particularly this one, so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it so much.

    • I look forward to you reading it! It was a bit different to others in the genre. I like how O’Leary is finding new perspectives to explore.
